Capestang and Carcassonne - Sunday October 20th

There was a market today in the main square of Capestang. We bought bread, vegetables and a cooked chicken for dinner.  We also bought our breakfast.  We then left for the fortified town of Carcassonne, one of the best examples of a restored fortified town in Europe.

Today there was a fair at the main entry and dry moat of Carcasonne.  People were dressed in medieval costume and sold many traditionally themed items.  Cute, but very expensive.

The town is surrounded by a double curtain wall.  This is between the walls.

Uh, sure I have a ticket, really . . . .  uh see my wife over there . . . really . . . . 20 Euros for the photo, ok!

There is a tall and very nice church within the walled town.  While there, these four men singers from Russia we singing sacred and traditional folk music a cappella.  It was so wonderful I bought a CD.

The town is packed with stores and a few hotels.  As you would expect, the streets are quite narrow.

This is the fortified chateau within the town itself.  These walls face the town inside of the double curtain wall.  The back of the chateau creates the inner curtain wall on that side of the site.

Looking down the main street at the back of the main gate to the town.

The visit was quite a highlight.  It really is quite a great place to visit.
