Arles to Avignon - Tuesday October 22nd [under construction]

* Under construction * update 6 November -  oops, I forgot to finish this post.  Will do so once I download my photos to my home computer in a weeks of so.

We traveled from Arles and visited:

Pont du Gard - a huge Roman aqueduct

Uzes - a pleasant town where we had lunch

Chateauneuf-du-pape, a town that produces some of the world's most famous wines

This is an image of the amphitheatre in Arles.  The site was reused for churches and residential buildings.  In order to investigate and restore the site these buildings were removed.

We also visited a church in Arles with a cloister.  Although not evident in this photo, the cloisters are under archaeological restoration currently.

This is the Pont du Gard, a major Roman aqueduct that is part of a system supplying water to the city of Niemes.  The structure is 50m high.

This is a wine merchant in the old part of the town of Chateauneuf-du-pape. We bought 2 bottles of wine from this store, and another bottle from a merchant for a single vineyard.

Avignon - a parking nightmare and where too many people smoke!  We did not realize that the hotel was in the pedestrian part of the old City.  Here we slept.
